Today’s Animal Medicine – Badger

For this week’s animal medicine, we’re walking the thin line represented by badger. There’s a reason we say that some people can ‘badger’ you and become a nuisance, and we’re going to look at both the positive and the negative side of Badger medicine.

badger Badgers are notoriously aggressive, often taking on predators that are traditionally both larger and more ferocious than they are, such as wolves and bears. This kind of aggressiveness has become very prized in western society today – the ambitious go-getters who do whatever is necessary often carry with them Badger medicine, as do many pioneers and powerful healers as well. These people are often willing to try any tactic and make any sacrifice for their goals. They are also often noted for speaking their minds and prizing honesty. Because of this aggressiveness, though, Badger medicine must be used wisely and not abused. It’s easy to get carried away and start abusing those around you, taking what doesn’t belong to you or intruding where you don’t belong. So with badger medicine comes the need for the wisdom of how to apply this aggressiveness properly and when to back off. A good medicine to help balance out Badger energy is Deer, known for gentleness and sensitivity.

Another trait of badger is their ability to dig quickly. This allows Badger medicine to aid us in seeing through smoke, mirrors, and general confusion into the heart of matters and to know what is going on beneath the surface. With this ability, again, comes the responsibility of knowing what to do with this information.

This is the second post in my animal medicine series! You can check out my first one on Buffalo by clicking here. See you next time!
