The Between Places

Weird phrase, right? But let’s talk about those Between Places.

The phrase refers to the places where one place becomes another place, like doors, passageways, forks in the road, etc. It is in these between places that fairy magic is abundant. If you think that means that fairies are absolutely everywhere, then you’re completely right!

In the days of old, people knew all about the fairies. They were everywhere and, like any other force of nature, you learned to live with them being part of your life. But the world changed and dealing with or believing in fairies caused you to be tortured and killed, so people gradually forgot about our fine fairy folk and those that remembered, remember the Disney version.

Let’s talk about fairies!

Keys gone missing? Fairies. Sudden mechanical failure? Fairies. Bird shat on your head? Fairies. There is a LOT out there that fairies do. They are rarely responsible for large accidents, but those tiny things that piss us off? Fairy potential all the way.

But they don’t just do bad things! Hen lay an extra egg? Fairies. Foxes no longer visiting the hen house? Fairies. Something broken begins working again? Fairies. So good stuff, too.

Fairies are much like people in that there good ones, bad ones, and ones in the middle. The idea of living with the fairies is to curry favor with the good ones to help you in your life, and to dissuade the bad ones from visiting misery upon your home.  Fairies like sweet foods, milk, and shiny trinkets, as far as physical world gifts go. If you want to be more casual than that, then you can read them a poem, sing them a song, or just chat with them about your life. They LOVE to interact and play.

If you would like to leave a gift for your fairy friends, the Between Places are a great place to do so! Remember, though, when you put out your honey cakes for the fairies, to remember to TELL them it’s there – lest your other neighborhood critters get there first!

Once you’ve developed a friendly relationship with our fairy cohabitors, you’ll notice things just suddenly start going smoothly. You probably won’t win the lotto, but the odds of getting gas money from a scratcher go way up! The fairy realm is full of quid pro quo – meaning eye for an eye. You scratch my  back, I scratch yours. Of course, the downside of that is if you double cross them, they will do damage in return.

So be kind to your fairy friends and remember to leave gifts, say hello, and sing them some songs! And check out my board full of fairy hideouts!
