Cleansing Powers of Air

We discussed the importance of cleansing and what it is in the previous post about cleansing with water, so I’m not going to repeat that here. Let’s just jump right into cleansing techniques with air.

Cleansing with air is excellent for those objects that really shouldn’t be cleansed with water, such as fabrics, feathers, or some types of jewelry.

Hold the object by the sides between the middle finger and thumb of your right hand and place the middle finger and thumb of your left hand on the top and bottom of the object, if possible. If the object is too large, cup the bottom of it with your left hand leaving the top untouched. Take a few deep breaths, breathing slowing in through your nose and out through your mouth. Holding the object in front of you where your breath will flow over it, take a deep breath, visualizing clean, pure, white light traveling into you lungs with your breath. Breath out, letting the white light flow outwards with your breath, and blow your breath across the object, pushing any negative or unwanted energy out of the object. Repeat this several times. When you feel that side is complete, rotate your object to the next side and repeat. Different objects have different numbers of sides and some are easier to figure out than others. For those that are unclear, allow your intuition to guide your hands. After all sides have been cleansed, your object is clean.

Another way to use air to cleanse an object is through the use a flight feather (a feather from the wing or tail) that has been cleansed and charged for the purposes of cleansing. Take this feather in your dominant hand and gently brush it across the physical surface of the object your cleansing, just as if you were removing a thin layer of dust. Visualize the negative energy being brushed away from the object. Again, use your intuition to determine when you’ve swept away all the negative energy from the object.

This last method can be considered an air method, a fire method, or a combination of both. This method is using incense or a smudge stick to cleanse the area. Sage, rosemary, and thyme are traditional for smudges, but lavender, lemon verbena, chamomile, cedar, and peppermint, among others, may be used as well. Light your incense or smudge stick, and use your hand or a flight feather to gently direct the smoke across whatever it is you’re trying to cleanse or hold the object in the path of the smoke, depending on size and what seems to work best. Again, use your intuition to tell when the object is cleansed.
